Energy

Increase Our Alternative Energy Supply

Congressman Dreier believes that we must reinvest in American energy solutions that draw upon all of our resources.  He supports efforts to expand the supply of not only our conventional energy sources, such as oil and natural gas, but also to increase the use of solar, wind, geothermal, nuclear and alternative fuels.

Promote clean, renewable energies, such as wind, solar and geothermal through expanded tax credits. As production and investment tax credits for these renewable energy sources are set to expire this year,m Congressman Dreier has cosponsored H.R. 5984, the Clean Energy Stimulus Act of 2008, which would extend through 2009 the tax credit for electricity produced from renewable energy sources, and through 2016 the energy investment tax credit for solar energy development.  Federal tax incentives for energy can be found at www.energystar.gov. California’s tax incentives for solar energy can be found at www.gosolarcalifornia.ca.gov.

Expand nuclear energy.  Currently, there are only 104 nuclear reactors, which provide us with approximately 20 percent of our nation’s electricity. To increase our supply of this clean, safe and reliable source of energy Congressman Dreier has voted to provide production tax credits as well as loan guarantees for the production of new nuclear facilities.

Expand our fuel options. By promoting the development of alternative fuel sources we can alleviate our reliance on oil as the primary transportation fuel in the United States. Congressman Dreier supports efforts to develop alternative, non food or feed based fuels, such as cellulosic ethanol, biodiesel and other biofuels.
