Dreier Statement on Job Losses, Upcoming Job Fair

March 6, 2009

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas) issued the following statement today regarding the release of new labor statistics demonstrating a rise in the Inland Empire’s unemployment rate to 11.8%:

“These numbers show that our economic crisis continues to deepen, and that working families are suffering terrible losses.  In our community, nearly one in eight workers is now unemployed.  The entire state of California has been hit hard, with one of the highest unemployment rates in the country.  These job losses are widespread, across all major sectors, and the impact on our families and communities is enormous.  I want to do everything I can for the people of the 26th district who are urgently seeking employment.  I will be hosting a job fair on Wednesday, April 8 from 9am-1pm at the Goldy Lewis Community Center, in order to connect employers and those seeking work.  In the mean time, there are a number of local resources available to those looking for job opportunities, training and other assistance as they look for work.  My office stands ready to assist workers in contacting the right agencies to get the help they need in their job searches.”
