Dreier Comments on La Caņada Flintridge Tragedy

April 2, 2009

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas, CA), commented today on the La Cañada Flintridge tragedy in a letter to Mayor Laura Olhasso and pledged his support to the community and its efforts to prevent such a tragedy from occurring again.  His letter to Mayor Olhasso is below:

Dear Laura,

Following yesterday’s tragic accident, my deepest sympathies are with the victims, their families and the community of La Cañada Flintridge.  This terrible tragedy must serve as a wake-up call to those responsible for keeping our roads and communities safe.  Given the fact that this is the second accident in less than a year involving out-of-state trucks navigating unfamiliar roads, action must be taken to prevent another tragedy from occurring.

As we discussed earlier today, I stand ready to work with you and the citizens of La Cañada Flintridge to take the steps necessary to prevent any further accidents and fatalities.  I have already been in contact with the Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration about yesterday’s accident to ask for their direct assistance in identifying what safety measures can be implemented in order to ensure that this never happens again on Angeles Crest Highway or in any other communities across the country.

When public safety is at issue, we have a responsibility to work together to find solutions.  No community should have to suffer through one, let alone two, accidents like this one.  Again, my thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
